The menu

Full course

You cook a full Japanese course menu. It includes sushi art rolls, typical sides dishes, miso soup, dessert and a glass of sake.

Sushi Art Rolls "Kazarizushi"

Get skilled at sushi rolling and make beautiful fish and vegetables patterns.

Teriyaki Chikin

Chicken with home-made Teriyaki, one of the emblematic japanese food sauce.

Yuzumiso

Side dish with "Yuzumiso": a sauce made from miso and yuzu, the popular citrus. It can be topped on different ingredients.

Goma-ae

Sesame sauce seasoned fresh vegetables. A sweeter variation to keep the taste balanced.

The sensei

Saori

Saori is the culinary expert. She majored in Cookery Science and is doing diet counseling, a skill she applied working as a personal chef for families. Fluent in English with her US experience, she will show you how to perform in Japanese food! She likes to create as drawing and photography are her other hobbies but also in food: she makes her own miso paste !

Meg

Meg is so much a food professional that she became personality of the food world. Radio, internet, she endeavors to let the world know about the benefits of the Japanese food, for health and lifestyle. And that’s why she is on the Odyssey Japan cooking lessons, Former flight attendant, she keeps herself healthy with her passion for salsa and yoga!

Nana

Nana will bring the “Omotenashi”, the Japanese manners at your table, as she is a certified instructor. But don’t worry about being doing things wrong, the former flight attendant who lived 20 years in the United States, knows how to entertain folks coming to her class. She might be a gourmet but she never says no to a good ramen!

Location

Our kitchen in Shinjuku area is a 6mn walk on from a true oasis of peace in Tokyo : Shinjuku Gyoen Garden. For 200 yen fee (500yen from March 19th), you can visit and appreciate the relaxing spring atmosphere. Needless to say that the cherry blossom season (March/April) is one of the best time to come, but the abundant changing flora is worth looking all-year-round like the azaleas and roses season in May.

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden Informations

Opening hours and entrance fee.
9am to 4pm (closes at 4.30pm). Open every day except Monday (closed Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday).
Entrance fee : 200 yen

From March 19th : 9am to 5:30pm (closes at 6pm)
Entrance fee. Adult : 500 yen. Children 15 and under: free of charge
Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is closed for New Year from December 29 to January 3.

  • Booking
    • The bookings are solely done on TripAdvisor and Expedia pages.
      We do not take reservations by direct mail for the moment.
  • Cancellation
    • Cancellation is made directly on the reservation website you chose. The policy is the following for both TripAdvisor and Expedia :
      - A 100% refund for cancellations made at least 24 hours in advance of the start date of the experience.
      - Cancellations made within 24 hours of the start date of the experience will receive no refund.
  • Safety & Responsibility
    • Kitchen knives and other equipment are used in the class.
      No liability or responsibility is accepted by Odyssey Japan for any injury, damage, loss, accident due to negligence or lack of caution from the participants.
      The class insurance covers unexpected events as food poisoning, fire or gas explosion.
  • Menu inquiries
    • Unfortunately, it is impossible for us to accommodate the menu by replacing ingredients at the moment.
  • Food restrictions
    • Dishes sauces use sesame, soy sauce, bonito flakes (fish), koji (malted rice) and alcohol in a small amount.
      The sushis are made of raw fish (salmon, tuna) and seaweed. Other meals may be cooked in the same kitchen we use for the Sushi Art & Japanese Cooking Class.
  • Do I need cooking skills to participate?
    • No, you don't need particular skills and the sensei can help you at anytime during the class.
